Ghillie's Bothy

Access to Ghillie’s Bothy is down a quiet country lane without the disturbance of through traffic. The Bothy is positioned behind the owners home in an enclosed courtyard with access to a fenced paddock, which can be used to exercise dogs or just sit back and admire the views.

Fully renovated by the owners in the spring of 2015, tastefully decorated in soothing colours with Jim Lawrence wall lights, Abraham Moon fabrics for curtains and cushions the cottage oozes warmth and comfort and is equipped with everything you will need for a perfect stay.

The Sitting Room

The centre piece of this cosy room is the Morso multi-fuel stove, which is set on a slate hearth with feature exposed whinstone wall behind. There  is a T.V. with Freesat, DVD player and a selection of DVD’s, Hi-Fi (with CD player, Bluetooth and DAB FM radio) some fiction and local interest books and a comprehensive Information Pack detailing local walks, places of interest and some recommended places to eat.

The traditional Scottish box bed, enclosed by walls on three sides and curtains to the fourth, provides a snug place to read, watch T.V. or just gaze into the flames of the fire. Originally much narrower than a modern double bed we have enlarged it to a full size double for the added comfort of our guests. As the bed is higher than usual there is a step stool to ensure ease of access. Beneath the bed there is ample storage for suitcases etc. and a small inset wardrobe for clothes.

The Kitchen

The sleek modern kitchen has integrated appliances including a dishwasher, fridge freezer, oven, hob and microwave and is equipped with everything required for preparing and cooking meals and a small dining area.

The Shower Room

There is a 9.5Kw shower, heated towel rail and wall mounted fan heater for extra warmth if needed. NOTE the property is connected to a septic tank.

Entrance Hall

In the cupboard there are cushions and rugs which can be used outdoors for picnics etc on fine days.

Outside

We installed an Electric Vehicle Charging point in August 2018. It is conveniently situated in the parking area next to Ghillie’s Bothy.

Across the courtyard there is a secure store which can be used to keep bikes or other precious equipment. It also houses the washer/drier, an airer, small barbeque and the recycling box.

The Paddock opposite Ghillie’s Bothy is fenced and can be used by guests to exercise their dogs, sit back with a G&T or have a barbeque. Please note there is often  sheep in the next field.

To the front of the main house there are numerous Rhododendrons and Azaleas which, when in season look and smell wonderful. Shinnel Water runs along the southern edge of the garden and is unfenced.
