Tynron is not the first place to spring to mind when you think of Peafowl, but yes you can find seven of these beautifully exotic birds in the village.
Peafowl are forest birds that nest on the ground but roost in trees. However, the Tynron fellas have been brought up with turkeys and follow them in to the barn in the evening! Peafowl will eat anything that will fit into their beak including plants, insects, reptiles and amphibians but also enjoy titbits such as bread. They appear at the farmhouse door in the afternoon along with their other feathered friends- ducks, geese and turkeys, for some tasty kitchen scraps.
The peacocks loud call is intended to intimidate rivals and predators.
