Today, 30th November is St Andrew’s Day. St Andrew officially become the patron saint of Scotland early in the 14th century. He is believed to have been born in Galilee and was a fisherman and deciple of Jesus. He died on an X shaped cross.
St Andrew is also the patron saint of Greece, Russia and Barbados.
The chivalric Order of Saint Andrew, also known as the Most Ancient Order of the Thistle, was created by James VII in 1687.
